Another tutorial for connecting to the Clarkson VPN may be found here: How to Connect to Clarkson VPN.
To Login From Windows, using PuTTY
To log in to ACRES from a Windows machine,

), which serves as a local ssh (secure shell) client through which you can access a Linux command line for ACRES.
Step 2) Once PuTTY has been downloaded and installed, run PuTTY and configure the login information, as described below:
Host Name = "acres.clarkson.edu"
Port = 22
Connection type = SSH
As shown below:
Step 3) Click "Open".
Step 4) You should be prompted for your username and password. Enter your credentials. (If you do not have an account on ACRES, you may request one by emailing the OIT helpdesk at: helpdesk@clarkson.edu )
Step 5) You now have access to a linux shell (command line) on ACRES. You should see a welcome message, and a report of your hard drive usage quota.
If you need access to a graphical user interface for some software on ACRES, please see: How to Use Graphical Applications on ACRES
To Login from Linux, Mac, or from Windows Subsystem Linux (WSL)
If you are a Linux or Mac user, or would like to use Windows Subsystem Linux (WSL) in Windows 10, use the following command in your local terminal:
[user@localhost~]$ ssh username@acres.clarkson.edu |
---|
[user@localhost~]$ ssh username@acres.clarkson.edu |
--- |
Your username is your Clarkson ID that precedes your email address. (If you do not have an account on ACRES, you may request one by emailing the OIT helpdesk at: helpdesk@clarkson.edu )
Enter you password when prompted. You now have access to a linux shell (command line) on ACRES. You should see a welcome message, and a report of your hard drive usage quota.
If one wants to use remote software (such as Tecplot) with graphic user interface (GUI), use the -X option to login:
