Moodle Course Access

Summary

Moodle courses are generally available to Teachers and Students for a period of 48 months after the semester or quarter term begins.  Terms described below.

Students:

Students that are enrolled in a section in myCU are added to the Moodle course with the role of Student.

How long you can see your courses?

  • Courses are available to students up to 48 months (4 years) from the term start date. Some exceptions do apply.

What this means for you?

  • We will do our best to keep your courses available. We cannot promise that all course materials, activities, or your own submissions will always be there after the course ends.

Why a course might go away sooner?

  • Sometimes a course or parts of a course may be turned off or removed before the 48 months are up. This can happen when:
      • The teacher or administrator decides to turn off the whole course or certain activities.
      • Files, videos or URLs stop working because of software updates, contract terms, or other technical reasons. Examples of when this may occur: Moodle updates cause quiz questions and other items to stop working; Lecture capture recordings become no longer available after two years per terms of third party service provider.
      • Support for materials or tools used in a course past the term end date is not provided.

Teachers:

  • Teachers listed for a section in myCU will be added to the Moodle course once it is created. A teacher must request a course to be created through their Faculty Center
  • After the terms ends, you may choose to turn off course access, in whole or in part. Please communicate your plans to your students.
  • Courses older than 48 months are purged from Moodle and permanently deleted.  Course content can not be retrieved after this time. Note: Follow these instructions to create a back up copy of course content for longer term storage.

For Student and Teacher departures from Clarkson, Moodle course access will terminate according to Clarkson's Account Deactivation Policy.
