Adding & Using Mass Actions Block

This guide shows you how to add the Mass Actions block to your course and how to use it.

Tool Description:

The Mass Actions block allows you to perform actions upon multiple resources or activities, rather than having to perform repeated actions on individual items.

Here are a few examples of it's time-saving use:

  1. You may need your students to use a link to the Clarkson library during Modules 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 in your course.

Without Mass Actions:

You would need to create the link to the Clarkson library 5 separate times, once in each module or create the link once, then duplicate it and move it manually 4 separate times.

With Mass Actions:

You would create the link to the Clarkson library once in Module 1, select it, then use the Mass Actions block to duplicate it directly to each of the modules.

2. You get Module 1 of your course set up and organized how you want it, with headings. You would like to use a consistent heading structure for all the rest of your modules.

Without Mass Actions:

You would need to either re-create the headings from scratch in each module or individually duplicate each item and move it to Module 2 (then do it again for Module 3, etc.).

With Mass Actions:

You would select the headings from Module 1 that you would like to duplicate to other modules and use the Mass Actions block to duplicate it directly to each of the modules.

3. You want to hide just the homework and quizzes in each module throughout your course before you open the course at the beginning of the term.

Without Mass Actions:

You would need to click the Edit link and choose hide for every homework and quiz in every module individually.

With Mass Actions:

You would click the check box to the left of every homework and quiz, then click Hide from the Mass Actions block once.

Note: If the Mass Actions block appears to be not working correctly, refresh your browser or remove the Mass Actions block and add it to your course again. Removing it and adding it back will not affect anything that you have previously done using the Mass Actions block.

Using the Mass Actions Block

The Mass Actions Block allows you to do the following to individual or multiple items either within the same module/section or other modules/sections:

  • show
  • hide
  • duplicate
  • delete
  • indent
  • outdent
  1. To select which items or items you would like to move, duplicate, show, etc. click on the box to the left of the desired item or items.

  2. In the Mass Actions block, choose what you would like to do with the item you just selected.

To show, hide, duplicate, delete, indent, or outdent an item(s) within the same module/section, use the With selected links.

To move or duplicate an item(s) to a different module/section, use the dropdown menus at the bottom then click the arrow to the right.
