Grades: Setting Up Your Gradebook

The Gradebook in Moodle is very powerful with several options for aggregating and presenting grades to students. Once your course is created in Moodle and your syllabus is finalized, you are ready to set up your Moodle Gradebook.  Refer to your syllabus when setting up the Grade Items, Categories and weights in your Gradebook.

This Guide Will Help You to:

  1. View the changes in the Gradebook from Moodle 4 to Moodle 4.5
  2. Choose an aggregation method for the course total grade.

1. Weighted Mean of Grades Aggregation Method: 

If you wish to weight grades differently in your course, then you want to set up your Gradebook using the weighted mean of grades in categories method.  Please note that this video will not quite match your screen in Moodle 4.5, however, the explanations are still viable. 2. Natural (Sum) Aggregation Method:

If you wish to grade based on a percentage of the sum of points, then you want to set up your Gradebook using the Natural aggregation method. Please note that this video will not quite match your screen in Moodle 4.5, however, the explanations are still viable. Here's how to set up Natural:

3. Simple Weighted Mean of Grades

Simply make all assignments worth 100 points and vary the weight by categories.
