Policy
Graduate students in funded roles perform valuable services for the University. These roles include Teaching Assistants (TAs), Research Assistants (RAs), Professional Assistants (PAs), Fellows, and Graduate Athletic Assistants (GAAs). Students working in these roles are first and foremost graduate students. Therefore, they and their supervisors should negotiate work schedules that are consistent with the academic careers of their students. The duties are normally related to specific work assignments agreed upon by the student and their advisor. Duties that are in addition to those described below require the approval of the appropriate Department Chair, School Dean, and Graduate School Dean. Unless otherwise stated, (1) full tuition provides a maximum of 30 credit hours per academic year; (2) requirements of these roles, aside for the RA and Fellowshops, are up to 20 hours of service per week during the academic year, or 12 hours of service per week during the calendar year; and (3) stipends must be at least minimum wage.
