Policy

A TA is an academic appointment in support of the teaching of a course or other related course activity as requested by the Department. TAs are assigned to assist the faculty in their teaching. While they may be involved in most of the activities related to teaching, they are not expected to serve as a replacement for faculty or other staff members. The spectrum of activities can include the duties listed below: 

  • Teaching students in recitations or laboratories for no more than two different courses within the same session; 
  • Grading and recording homework, laboratory reports, or exams; 
  • Proctoring exams; 
  • Holding office hours and help sessions for their students; 
  • Preparing teaching materials for their sections; 
  • Setting up equipment and maintaining laboratories required for their TA assignments; 
  • Performing administrative tasks to facilitate learning.

Students on a Teaching Assistantship receive the following:

  • Full stipend and
  • Full tuition
