Adding and Updating an Advisor In PeopleSoft
Note: You can only update an advisor once a day. Once you click save and exit out the page, you will not be able to make any further adjustments until the following day.
How to add an advisor
First, click into the myCU tile, then select Academic Information. If you do not have access to this tile, please contact the IT Helpdesk at helpdesk@clarkson.edu
Student Advisor is the first option on the menu, so you should automatically be sent to the page below. You can search a student through either their ID number or name. Once you input the students information, click Search.
For new students, all of the boxes will be blank. Fill in the following:
- Academic Career (will always be GRAD)
- Academic Program - select magnifying glass, only one option should populate for the student. It with either be GISE, GBUS, GHSC, or GENG
- Academic Plan - click the magnifying glass, there should only be one option (two if a student is working on a MS and PhD), select the correct program
- Unless the student has an MS sub-plan, leave this box blank. If the student does have a sub-plan, click the magnifying glass and select the option available
- Academic Advisor - click the magnifying glass to search for the advisor by name
- You can leave Advisor Percentage and Committee blank
Once the larger boxes are filled out, check off 'Must Approve Enrollment', then click 'Save'.
How to update/change an advisor
If a current student wishes to change their advisor, you will access the same Academic Information tile and input the students name or ID number. When on the next page, click the blue plus sign at the top of the page. Note: You must click this plus sign before making any changes, otherwise you will not be able to save the page.
After you click the first plus sign, delete the Academic Advisor ID and input the ID of the new advisor. Then, click Save.
