The following prompts can help instructors to get a jump start on classroom activity ideas.
Note: These are intended as initial prompts to generate solid outlines. Additional input is needed to tailor the information to more specifics going on in class, or to create additional background material for the students before they do the activity.
1. Discussion Facilitation
Prompt: "Create a detailed plan for a classroom discussion on [Topic], specifically in the field of [Field of Study], for upper-level undergraduate students. Include at least five open-ended questions to stimulate critical thinking, strategies for managing differing opinions constructively, and innovative methods to ensure participation from shy or reserved students."
Use: This prompt now targets a specific academic level and field, focusing on deeper engagement and inclusivity in discussions.
2. Group Project Idea
Prompt: "Generate a concept for a group project for students in [Course Name], focusing on [Specific Aspect of the Course]. Outline the project's objectives, expected outcomes, specific roles for students, including leadership and research tasks, and detailed evaluation criteria that include both peer and instructor assessments."
Use: The prompt provides a clearer framework for project roles and mixed assessment methods, which can help in designing more structured and measurable projects.
3. Case Study Development
Prompt: "Develop a comprehensive case study for [Course Name] related to [Topic], which is relevant to current trends in [Industry/Field]. Include detailed background information, a description of the main challenges, a set of analytical questions that encourage application of course theories, and outline potential solutions based on recent research or case studies."
Use: This prompt emphasizes relevance to current industry trends and the application of recent research, making the case study more engaging and applicable for students.
4. Quiz and Test Questions
Prompt: "Create a set of quiz/test questions for [Course Name] covering these key concepts: [List of Concepts]. The set should include ten multiple-choice questions with four options each, five true/false questions, and three short-answer questions that require critical analysis. Also, provide a brief explanation for the correct answers to the short-answer questions."
Use: By specifying the number and type of questions and asking for explanations, this prompt helps in creating a more comprehensive assessment tool that also aids in student learning.
