Faculty/Staff Centralized PC & Laptop Purchase Program

Student Recommendations: If you are a student and are considering purchasing your own computer to bring to campus, you can find recommendations here. 

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a centralized computer purchasing program. This program is designed to maximize the financial resources of the University by ensuring computers purchased meet environmental and efficiency standards, are appropriately sized and equipped for the type of work being performed, are standardized for efficient support, and are compatible with our University software and systems.  We have worked with HP, Dell, and other vendors to secure access to state-contract pricing on desktops, tablets PCs, laptops, and portable devices for institutional use.  Additionally, this program will ensure all computers meet Energy Star and EPEAT standards for efficiency and environmental responsibility.

All computer purchases using University funds must be made from this standardized listing. Exceptions for research and other specialized needs are managed on a cases by cases basis and are subject to approval by OIT. We will assist to find an appropriate solution. 

How To Order:

To order, place a request through the OIT Helpdesk via email to helpdesk@clarkson.edu or x4357.  OIT Helpdesk and the Satellite Support Staff will help to assess your needs and give you options and pricing.  Please note that prices and availability are subject to change.

Your request should include:  

• The desired technical specifications for your new device (OIT staff can assist);
• Account/budget code for the cost of the purchase; and
• Approval from your Department Head.

Exceptions:  in the event that OIT is unable to source a suitable device in a timely manner, sourcing through a third-party retailer (Amazon) may be an option, subject to approval.  You must not make a computer purchase without prior approval from OIT.

• • More favorable pricing alone is not reason enough to purchase through third-party retailers
  • Third-party vendor ordering will require VP for Information Technology approval

Please anticipate 3 to 4 week lead time for delivery. Standard units are commonly available in less time.
