Updating job descriptions during the annual appraisal process is a common best practice. If a job hasn’t changed significantly the job description may not need to be updated.
If a job description is outdated, starting to discuss about potential updates during the performance discussion can be a good start. The updates to the job description can be finalized later, so they do not need to be done before completing the appraisal form.
