Tips for Using AI Generated Study Aids

Align Study Aids With Learning Objectives

AI-generated questions aren't automatically aligned with your course objectives. For example, if your learning objective asks students to analyze a marketing strategy, an AI-generated question asking students to define "market segmentation" may be accurate but may not adequately support the objective. When reviewing Study Aids, ask: "Does this resource help students practice what I actually want them to learn?" Consider revising questions to move beyond simple recall when your learning objectives require students to:

  • Apply concepts

  • Analyze information

  • Evaluate alternatives

  • Solve problems

  • Make decisions

  • Create or develop something

TLC Tip: Think of AI as a starting point for creating study materials—not a replacement for instructor judgment.

Recommended Faculty Workflow

For the best results, consider this workflow:

  1. Start with the learning objective: What should students be able to know or do after completing the lesson?
    2. Generate the Study Aid: Use AskEcho to create a first draft, or create the resource manually.
    3. Review for accuracy: Check terminology, facts, examples, and emphasis.
    4. Review for alignment: Make sure the Study Aid supports the learning objective.
    5. Improve the questions: Change questions that are too easy, vague, repetitive, or focused only on recall.
    6. Share with students: Make the Study Aid available once you are satisfied with the content.
    7. Tell students how to use it: Consider adding a brief instruction such as:
         "After watching the lecture, use the Study Cards to test your recall and complete the Practice Quiz
          to identify concepts you may need to review."

AI Considerations

Because AskEcho uses AI to generate Study Aids from the recording transcript, the quality of the output depends in part on the content and transcript being analyzed.

Before sharing AI-generated Study Aids, instructors should verify:

  • Accuracy: Are the facts and answers correct?

  • Completeness: Are important concepts represented?

  • Relevance: Does the material focus on what students need to learn?

  • Alignment: Does it support the course or lesson objectives?

  • Cognitive level: Are students being asked to recall, apply, analyze, or evaluate as appropriate?

  • Course context: Does the material reflect how the instructor presented the concept?
