Setting up Milestones in Peoplesoft


Purpose of Milestones

Milestones are used for related but vital requirements that a student must complete toward degree progress to graduate. A review of the Graduate Catalog for a particular program will define those requirements and some examples are:

Appointment of Thesis or Dissertation Committee Qualifying Exam(s) PhD Candidacy Exam Project MS Thesis PhD Dissertation Theme

If you do not locate a particular Milestone that you would like to use, it can always be set-up by gradschool@clarkson.edu.

Accessing Milestones:

Under Peoplesoft/Student Navigate to Records and Enrollment>Enroll Students>Student Milestones

Setting up the Milestone(s):

Enter Student ID number>Search (if nothing populates, you will be adding a new Value to set-up the first Milestone for a student) Click Add a New Value. If the student already has Milestones set-up, a new screen will appear so you can review and either ADD; UPDATE; or DELETE reflected Milestones.

At the next screen, Enter:

Enter Academic Career Enter Academic Program Click ADD

When the Student Milestones screen opens:

Default for Effective Date will be the current date Enter Milestone (use dropdown for titles) Enter Academic Plan Make sure the Description is what you want it to read. If not, you can modify/change Milestone Title is normally left blank, however, it is optional depending on what your Milestone is. For example if you are setting us a Thesis Milestone, the Milestone Title would be filled in later once the student completes their Milestone to capture the Title of their Thesis and their Advisor Name Comment: Again is optional. Normally if you are setting up a Thesis or Dissertation or PhD Candidacy Exam, you might want to indicate the Admit Term the student started their program since this date will determine the time frame the student has to complete their Milestone Required Term: Can be used for those that have a set time frame the Milestone should be completed by

Once the above has been completed, click SAVE or you can ADD a Row, to enter another Milestone set-up

Recording Milestone Attempts/Completions:

The Department will normally notify the Grad Coordinator when a student has passed or attempted (and failed) regarding most of the Milestones we use. The delivery of this notification will be by submitting a Form or Memo. This supporting documentation gets filed in the students' Official record in PeopleSoft. The next step is to update the Milestone to record the attempt.

Follow the instructions above to open Student Milestones Under Effective Date section, click ADD button

Under the Milestone Detail locate the Milestone you wish to update and then enter the information which might include:

-Milestone Title (optional)

Under Attempts: -Milestone Complete -How Attempted -Date Attempted

Click SAVE
