Deleted Account - How to intercept a recovery email for a 3rd party account

Use Case:

A user that has left the university needs access to their Clarkson account after their account has been deleted. 

Prerequisites

  • Delegated access to the OITGoogleSupport account
  • Access to the Google Admin portal.

Process

 

  1. Open the Google Admin portal and open the OITGoogleSupport account
  2. Select User Information

  3. Select Alternate Email (Email Alias)

  4. Enter the user's deleted Clarkson username and then click Save 
  5. Have the user attempt a password recovery attempt. 
  6. Open the OITGoogleSupport mailbox in Gmail by going to Gmail, clicking your profile in the top right, and selecting the delegated OITGoogleSupport mailbox.
  7. Forward the recovery email in the inbox to the user, then delete the recovery email from the inbox and clear the trash.
  8. Once the user has the recovery email and the recovery process has been completed, remove the alias from OITGoogleSupport in the Google admin console, otherwise email will continue to flow into the inbox.
