Federal work-study (FWS) provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for education expenses.
As mandated by the FWS program, every $1 of FWS budget is covered 75% by Federal Government funding and 25% by Clarkson University matching funds. Within PeopleSoft this split is budgeted as 75% in Fund 385 and 25% in Fund 100 as shown below:
Due to this special split funding, FWS budget can only be spent on FWS expenditures within Fund 100 and Fund 385. FWS budget cannot be transferred to/from other accounts. It can be transferred to/from other departments as long as it remains on account 2176.
Historically, Clarkson University has used the full amount of FWS awarded from the Federal Government. To do so, as the academic year comes to a close, unused FWS budget will be transferred from departments unable to use the funds into departments that can use the funds. FWS-eligible students who had previously been charged to 2175 University Student Wages will have the payroll reallocated into 2176 Federal Work Study Wages.
